Why Every Electrician Needs a Proper Website in 2026
Still relying on word of mouth and a Facebook page? You are not alone – but the electricians picking up the jobs you are missing probably have something you do not.
Word of mouth is brilliant when it works. But it has one major problem: you have no control over it. When it slows down, there is no tap to turn on. A website changes that. Done properly, it works for you around the clock, seven days a week, even when you are three floors up with your hands in a consumer unit.
The way people find tradespeople has changed
Ten years ago, a recommendation from a neighbour and a listing in the local paper was enough. Today, even when someone gets a recommendation, the first thing they do is look you up online. If they cannot find you, or if what they find does not give them confidence, they move on to the next name.
Think about the last time you needed a tradesperson you did not already know. You probably searched Google, looked at a couple of websites, and called the one that looked the most professional. Your customers are doing exactly the same thing.
A Facebook page is not the same as a website
A lot of electricians rely on Facebook as their only online presence. It is free, it is easy, and people do use it. But it has real limitations as your main business tool.
You do not own it. Facebook can change what people see, how your page ranks, and how easy it is to contact you – and there is nothing you can do about it. A website is yours. It shows up in Google searches, it works exactly how you set it up, and it builds trust in a way a Facebook page rarely does.
Having both is ideal. But if someone is choosing between two electricians and one has a professional website and one only has a Facebook page, the website usually wins.
What a good electrician website actually needs
You do not need anything complicated. Most electricians get the best results from a straightforward site that covers five things clearly:
- What you do – domestic, commercial, PAT testing, EV chargers, consumer units, or whatever your specialisms are
- Where you work – the areas you cover, as specifically as possible
- Why someone should choose you – experience, qualifications, NICEIC or NAPIT registration
- How to get in touch – a phone number that is easy to find and a contact form
- Proof you are legitimate – any accreditations, a photo of you, even a couple of reviews
That is it. Clean, clear, and easy to read on a phone. That is what converts a visitor into an enquiry.
SEO – getting found before your competitors
A website only works if people can find it. That is where search engine optimisation comes in. When someone in your area types “electrician near me” or “electrician in [your town]” into Google, you want your site to come up.
Good SEO for a trades business is not complicated, but it does need to be done properly from the start. That means using the right words on the right pages, making sure your site loads quickly, and setting up your Google Business Profile so you show up on Google Maps as well as in search results.
The electricians who come up first in your area almost certainly have a website with proper SEO behind it. The good news is that most areas are not saturated – there is usually room to rank if your site is set up correctly.
What about the cost?
This is the question most tradespeople ask, and fairly so. A website used to mean a large upfront payment and then a bill every time you needed something changed. That put a lot of sole traders and small electrical businesses off entirely.
It does not have to work that way. At Pixelroot, we build websites for tradespeople on a simple monthly plan with no setup fee. That covers the design, the content, the hosting, and the SEO. You get a proper website without a large bill before we have even started.
One new customer from a Google search covers months of the plan. Most electricians find the site pays for itself quickly.
The bottom line
If you are an electrician without a proper website in 2026, you are invisible to a large chunk of the people looking for exactly what you offer. The ones finding those customers are your competitors with better online presence.
It does not need to be complicated or expensive to fix. If you want to talk through what your site needs, give us a call or book a free 30-minute chat. No hard sell, just an honest conversation about what would actually make a difference.
